i taught my very first harold class this week and it was much easier than i thought it would be AND it was a lot of fun. i made sure to stretch what i call the "gayball" muscles. those are the muscles that allow you to silently interpret through dance and movement a wide range of songs from jewel's "foolish games" to joe dassin's "l'amerique". it was a lot of fun to watch everyone get into it and submit themselves to the silliness of it. i think that's my favorite part about improv. that for 20 to 30 minutes a group of people commit to each other's ideas and submit to the silliness. it's fun to be a part of that, even if you're in the audience because it's still extremely fun to watch a group of people collectively make fools of themselves for the benefit of the piece.
i think you can boil the harold down to one thing: support. if everyone supports one another you can only succeed. i think.
