wesley snipes gets 3 years for tax evasion

this is awesome! seriously. this whole thing is so ridiculous anyway. why do we care so much about wesley snipes not paying his taxes? i probably walk by 15 people everyday that haven't paid their taxes in over 5 years - chicago's pretty big. why should we care about him though? i guess we care just because he's a celebrity and it's fun to see 'em misbehave and get caught.

i think the thing that really makes this so great is that the judge is also just trying to make an example out of him for the sole purpose of making a bold statement to other would-be tax evaders. doesn't tax evaders sound like a really crappy psa-type, government comic book for teens to learn the importance of paying their taxes? anyway, if it weren't for his celebrity, wesley snipes might get 6 months to a year tops, maybe even community service depending on the judge. but snipes got 3 years; the max for his sentence? it sucks that he has to be that guy because he really wanted to make things right. yeah, he wanted very badly to show how sorry he was for what he did. in faaaacct...

he offered the judge 3 checks totaling $5 million as a gesture of good will. i don't blame him and i think i would try the same thing if it were me. at the very least i think it should lessen his sentence, but i can sort of see why it didn't help him. the guy just got sentenced for not paying his taxes, a.k.a lying, for nearly ten years and now he wants to give you a check as a sign of good will? and not just one, personal, trustworthy check; no, he wants to give you 3 different checks who's aggregate is a cool 1/3 of your balance to show how sincere he is. you really think anyone would seriously consider the idea that those checks wouldn't bounce at this point in time? dude, i'll be the first in line to see a showing of demolition man at the music box, but come on! 3 checks is so vague as well. i mean, are they all coming from him or does one say paramount or burger king or rev. al sharpton?

i don't know what it is about this case - it's not even that popular and even the subject matter of this entry is offending me and it's my opinion! but this case is intriguing and so utterly stupid at the same time that it makes it even more intriguing, which means we're all losers. again my autobiography will be entitled "love hurts, sex sells, and we all die".

this has been my first "rant".
